The Ron Wood Center in Carson City is distributing their annual Christmas dinner food baskets this week throughout Carson City. The baskets are being gifted to local foster families and the elderly, as well as to recipients recommended by Juvenile Probation and Safe School Professionals.
At least 250 baskets have been prepared filled with supplies to prepare a Christmas dinner. The Carson City Grocery Outlet provided discounts to the Ron Wood Center for the groceries in the baskets. Other items were donated throughout the Share Your Holiday Food Drive as well.
Lisa Yesitis, a licensed social worker with Ron Wood Center, has been directing the Christmas dinner baskets for five years, along with Family Advocate Supervisor, Erika Lera.
“It’s just where our hearts are at — giving to local families,” Yesitis said. Lera added: “We love to form supportive relationships with families throughout the year and this is when we can give them a gift. We’re able to give them tangible, and we know it’s helping.”
The Ron Wood Family Resource Center was founded in 1995 by a group of local citizens concerned with the future of Carson City’s young people and their families.
The center originally began as the “Ron Wood Project” and the main focus was to be a truancy center. However, the “project” quickly grew into a Family Resource Center in order to meet the growing need of Carson City’s residents. Nevada Family resource Centers are regulated and partially funded by Nevada Revised Statute NRS 430A.
